Lyrics
[verse]
I grew by the wall in the governor's yard
I only wanted to be beautiful
I dreamed that a king would carry me
In his hand on a holy day
[chorus]
And a rose was made a crown
And the thorns were turned around
And the hand that I had hoped would hold me
Wore me and did not put me down
[verse]
They cut me rough and they wound me tight
And they laughed at the title that they nailed above
And I held on tight to the only king
Who was ever worth the name of love
[bridge]
I was made for the morning, I was made for the garden
And I came to the hour I was made for
[chorus]
And a rose was made a crown
And the thorns were turned around
And the hand that I had hoped would hold me
Wore me and did not put me down
